Hi there

I was told it would exist better to remove the shroud and stock fans from my EVGA card since I have two 120mm Noctua fans right below it already. Question is, how practise I merely remove the shroud? The online guides I found show removing the unabridged oestrus sink and not just the shroud. I tried to remove the screws on the side which got me somewhere just there is 1 spiral on one end that is tucked underneath. Does anyone have any communication one how to go to this the screw? From in that location, I think the fans are some other separate particular.

Just accept the heatsink off. It'll be easier this way. I mean, why not?

because when you remove whatever kind of heat sink, yous have to remove the old thermal paste and re-apply information technology. that would take longer then removing ane screw

If it's easier removing the heatsink, and so swap fans, don't yous think swapping out thermal paste would assist? I swap out thermal paste everytime I get a new card. You lot worried nearly spending a few xtra minutes?

Hey man, sorry if it'due south likewise late or if you figured something else out simply let me tell you that his is Non correct.

I KNEW KNEW KNEW that's why you lot weren't taking it off, I refreshed for similar thirty mins (I see you responded dorsum right at 30 mins LOL!) hoping you'd reply back in the affirmative.

Either style, no, it's fine. You lot can take the heatsink off without redoing the thermal paste. That'south one of those erstwhile wives tales that just simply isn't truthful.

If you haven't ALREADY figured out a style I can promise y'all that taking the heatsink off (be careful of course not to completely FUCK the thermal paste upward) and put it back on yous'll be FINE.

I'm 31 at present and have been doing this since I was 15 and have never e'er had issues reusing thermal paste/pads from just putting stuff back on. Ever. No temp changes, no failed parts, nothing.

Just keep the fans on there some guy is probably trolling your from Noctua so they tin can sell more Chocolate-brown colored fans with ruby-red brown fins. If you mess it up you volition exist boot yourself for doing so...

So what have nosotros learned from this? If yous want a cool and repose card, take hold of a AIO/hybrid kit or slap a cake on that bowwow.

Thumbs up for having the guts to try crazy shit with expensive hardware, admit failure, and share the results. I think that's what being [H] is all about. (y)

Dude, that's pretty [H]core. I wouldn't consider that a bust until I'd made a custom shroud to force the airflow through the fins. I bet a lot of the air is but deflecting off the heat sink surface. Practise information technology correct, make us proud! (y)

You might see better results with fans that has more static pressure. Since yous trying to cool a heatsink and your fans are mounted on the lesser with little clearance.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I had no idea. Just ordered a pair of F12'south and the new A12's and will do a 3 fashion criterion and post the results.

With the spacing betwixt the fans and the heatsink I'm not sure how much static force per unit area matters vs. just flow. I think the problem is that without the fans being flush-mounted confronting the heatsink and the shroud forcing air through the fins, it's to easy for air to get effectually the heatsink than through it.
